I’ve had a few designer office chairs over the last ten to fifteen years. This is partially due to the fact that I had an antique store many years ago. Eventually though I moved into the world of information technology, a total reversal of my life really, and became more interested in having new pieces around me. I spent a ridiculous amount of time driving all over town recently looking for cheap home office furniture that was of reasonable quality and found absolutely nothing. I didn’t even come across occasional individual pieces cheaply that would have allowed me to assemble an inexpensive office suite with mismatched items. After my tiresome trek, I opted to continue my search on the internet. It was amazing how the results were mostly the opposite of what I found out and about. There were some web stores trying to unload the same junk I found in walk in stores, but mostly I found higher quality at lower prices online.

Why would anyone need an ergonomic office chair? Couldn’t they just make do with a normal operator’s chair? Maybe for a sort time they could, but for anyone who spends many hours seated at their desk, an ergonomic office chair is very beneficial. If one is just plopping down in a chair for a few minutes and then getting up to do more work elsewhere, then the choice of chair makes little difference. When long period of time are spent working in one place though we tend to allow our bodies to slouch into uncomfortable positions that we can’t seem to get out of. An ergonomic chair fits one’s body better to support areas and eliminate that painful slouch.

Leather reclining chairs can be rather expensive and as a consequence many synthetic materials have been made to substitute it. The newest version of the faux leather concept is commonly known as PU, which is short for polyurethane. I just call this sort of material vinyl, even though it really isn’t anymore. PU recliners seem to have mixed reviews. Some people rave about it and feel the look and feel of it is close enough to leather that one shouldn’t pay extra for the real deal. I don’t know though, as I have had more than a few old vinyl chairs fall apart on me and leather models that lasted. As this new breed of fake leather is supposed to be stronger than the old, I may have to try it out.

Some of us are old enough to remember metal cupboards used in kitchens shortly after world war two. These are massive and heavy with drawers that clanged every time they were opened or closed.
